THE CHRISTIANITY/SPIRITUALITY BATTLE, PRAYER, and ART

The title of this is: "Untitled". There are a few things going on here but for the most part I wanted to convey the desperation of someone in trouble. The body language of the individual shows humbleness and complete surrender and of course he is on the roof of a church.  The leaves blowing and the coming of a storm adds more drama to the picture.  I wanted to capture what it is like to lean on faith and to be in such desperation during a situation. Which mostly everyone can relate to. Most Americans lean on some kind of spirituality to bring them through the day or through life. So this brings me to the next question as to why media, or the society tends to only bring up spirituality or the existence of God during times, actually not
even during, after the fact of a tragedy?
From Columbine, to Virginia Tech, to the shootings in Colorado committed by James Holmes, mindless killings of innocent people appear to be on the rise. I read a blog on cnn.com titled, "Where was God in Aurora?". What raises an eyebrow for me, is that God tends to be only mentioned or acknowledged during perilous times. Outside of that, there are some parts of society that want him completely gone and not mentioned. I just learned that it was fifty years ago being June 25, 1962,  when prayer was banned from schools, it was very recent when an atheist family in Massachusetts wanted the "Under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance, and a speaker by the name of Dan Savage was to give an anti-bullying speech when it suddenly turned into an Anti Christian rant. It was after the 9/11 attacks when all of the "God Bless America" banners were seen everywhere.  So where do we go from here? So are Christians or anyone that leans on any kind of spiritual being, allowed to pray or not? Is it safe to say, that the society allows praying, or any kind of spiritual mention, only when something tragic that
has happened and affects us as a country?
